Longer hairstyle for women over 50?

I'm over 50. My hair has always been very long and VERY thick. Even though I have been through menopause (I went through it at a young age), my hair has not changed. It grows extremely fast. When I have it cut it take the salon 3 plus hours to cut and color. I have my hair styled and colored about every 4 or 5 months - depending. It is now half-way down my back. I am getting it styled and colored in a few days. I would like to keep it longer. Do you think long hair on older women makes them look older? Trying to decide on a change or keeping my mane.
