Just how violent is the TV series Heroes?

I mean it says its suitable for ages 14 and over, but I heard its extremely gory and stuff. Now I don't like gore and stuff (well I don't like upclose gore, but if its shown from a distance or very briefly then I don't mind). So is it more violent than superhero films like Watchmen or is it tamer?
