What is inappropriate among friends?

A close male acquaintance introduced me to my current mate who is now jealous of my relationship w/his friend of many years. My friendship is completely innocent and platonic since the beginning but recently, a friendly greeting w/a kiss on the cheek and a hug (no different than any other time) aggravated my mate. Should I now distance myself from my male acquaintance?
