What happens to the water in the cytoplasm when distilled water is added?

The water in the cell has a lot of things dissolved in it, so a steep diffusion gradient is present when the cell is surrounded by pure water. Water will POUR into the cell, following this diffusion gradient in a hopeless attempt to try and balance the concentration of things inside and out..... eventually, like a balloon that's blown up too far...... BOOM!! The cell bursts open and bye-bye.
